Why did they subtract the resultant force (Fr=ma) by F ( I'm assuming Fg=mg)? Did they do T=m (g-a)??? To find its tension...??
That would give me a closer number. 1.17 x 10 ^5 . Close but no cigar....

The problem can be pretty confusing. First of all, even if the problem is about a plane, it is about the landing and the braking. All of that is being done already on the ground, we can then ignore the gravity.
Once you have your acceleration, you can keep it very simple by using F = ma. This force is the addition of a lot of different forces like the friction of the brakes, the air and more, but we only need the total force for our problem, which is why you can just use ma to find the answer.
