Hi,
What is a scanning line, and do I need to know it for my exam?
My teacher said, "Never will ask about scanning line, but it helps understand when more than 1 is the max or min. Really need to only know questions that ask ‘how many solutions would be a max/min'."
Don't understand what she is saying.

I don't know under what circumstances your teacher mentioned a scanning line, but in relation to maxima and minima (whether they are absolute i.e. the highest or the lowest or relative) a scanning line would be a line parallèle to the x-axis that you move up and down: it allows you to identify these relative and absolute max or min more easily.
