    The guiding function allows a part to make a precise movement, either in rotation, translation or an helical movement, that is, rotation and translation at the same time. Guidings also make it possible to limit the amplitude of a part.

    Rotational guiding

    Rotational guiding allows a part to turn on itself without making another movement. The classic example is the axis of a flywheel which guides the rotational movement to turn while limiting a translation. Guiding allows the steering wheel to stay in place and turn.

    Translational guiding

    Translational guiding only allows a part to move in a straight line. For example, the rails on the drawers only allow them to open or close and they limit the range of movement. If we open a drawer, it will eventually stop.

    Helical guiding

    This guiding allows a part to make a rotational and translational movement around the same axis. The most common helical guiding is the thread that is found on the screws, since it allows the rotation of the screw and its translation in the object on which it is screwed.
