If you're multiplying 33.45 × 45.67, do you need to add an extra zero? 🤔

Actually, when multiplying decimal numbers, you don’t add a zero, but you must count the total number of decimal places.

    How to do it?

    1. Ignore the decimal points and multiply as if they were whole numbers:
    2. → 3345×45673345 \times 45673345×4567
    3. Calculate the product normally.
    4. Count the total number of decimal places:
      • 33.45 has 2 decimal places.
      • 45.67 has 2 decimal places.
      • In total: 2 + 2 = 4 decimal places in the final answer.
    5. Place the decimal point in the final result to make sure there are 4 decimal places.

    Example with a simpler calculation:

    If you multiply 3.2 × 4.5, first multiply 32 × 45 = 1440, then place the decimal to get 2 decimal places14.40.

    Conclusion:

No, you don’t need to add an extra zero, but you must place the decimal point correctly at the end! 😃

Please come back if it isn't clear!
