    The addition and the  subtraction of decimals are done exactly the same way as when we are in the presence of whole numbers. The important thing is to align the commas contained in each of the numbers.

    For example, let's add the following decimal numbers: 532.2 and 12.245.

    We start by correctly placing the numbers. It can be useful to add zeros if necessary:

    Then, we add one position at a time starting from the right:
