You need to understand that all atoms seek to fill their last electron shell to be stable, and thus achieve the electron configuration of the nearest noble gas. Therefore, the most reactive atoms are those that can reach this stable configuration most easily.
Lewis notation gives us information about the number of valence electrons of atoms, while the periodic table shows the relationships between atoms and their nearest noble gas. The period and group also influence the electronegativity of atoms and their atomic radius, thereby affecting their reactivity.
