Can you explain the difference between an autonomous territory, a republic, a democratic republic, a country and a socialist union?

An autonomous territory is a territory which administers itself, with its own laws. There are still around 17 territories that are considered “non-self-governing”.
According to Perspective Monde :
A Republic is a form of government where power is shared between a president and other representatives of the population. A Republic is opposed to a monarchical system, since the function of Head of State is not hereditary. A Republic is democratic if its president is elected by the people. However, a Republic is not always democratic. Sometimes the Head of State can be appointed authoritatively, as it is the case in the USSR.
A country is a territorial and political unit administered by a government and delimited by borders within which a population lives. You can find all the countries of the world on a geopolitical map.
Concerning the last term, I'm not sure that I understand properly because a socialist union is generally a political party. In Morocco, there is the Socialist Union of Popular Forces. In France, there is the Republican Socialist Union. So there isn't really an exact definition of what a socialist union is. However, if you are looking for the ideas of a particular political party, you can just tell us which one and we will be happy to help you! :)
