Why is b) positive??? Negative divided by a positive is negative, right?

    Hi!


    Yes, when you divide a negative number by a positive number, the answer is negative.

    However, you have to be careful, the formula to use is the following:

    You forgot the negative sign which is part of the formula ;)


    Since \(h_{o}\) = 0.1, \(d_{i}\) = -2 and \(d_{o}\) = 1, we have the equation:

    $$\frac{h_{i}}{0.1}=\frac{-(-2)}{1}$$

    The two negative signs cancel each other out, which gives us:

    $$\frac{h_{i}}{0.1}=\frac{2}{1}$$

    That's why the answer is positive :)


    Also, if you want to check your answers at the end, you can check if you are following the sign convention:

    Since our image is straight, then we expect to get a positive \(h_{i}\)!
