Tool: The K-W-L Chart

The K-W-L chart is a graphic organizer that helps students activate their prior knowledge and build a general understanding of a new topic. It has three sections where students record what they know, what they want to learn, and what they have learned about a subject. It can be adapted to most pedagogical approaches, but plays a particularly important role in explicit teaching.
