How many countries are in the British Empire? Are these countries (England, Scotland, Ireland, etc) considered to be under one Empire or are they independent countries?

    There were a lot of countries (formally colonies) in the British Empire. You can see all of them in the map below:

    Ireland was in fact in the Empire until its independence from it in 1937.

    Scotland and England were both a part of the British Empire and, to this day, are still a part of Great Britain.
