Homework is a way to make sure that you understand what you learnt in class. Without practice, it is harder to understand the notions you learn in school. Just imagine, in math, if you did not have any exercices to do? Would you be able to do you exams as well?
Homework makes it possible to continue learning even when you are not at school to make sure that you understand and that you don't forget what was teached during the day! :D
