    Hello Delta Potassium!

    Thank you for your question!

To conduct the litmus paper test, red and blue paper are required. Effectively, one after the other, using tongs, both papers are soaked in a solution to determine the acid-base character of it.

Next, we examine the colors of each paper:

    • Red paper remains red in an acidic or neutral solution and turns blue in a basic solution.

    • Blue paper stays blue in basic or neutral solution and turns red in acidic solution.

In short, if the solution is acidic, red litmus paper will stay red, and blue litmus paper will turn red.

If the solution is neutral, the blue litmus paper will remain blue, and the red litmus paper will stay red.

If the solution is basic, the blue litmus paper will remain blue, and the red litmus paper will turn blue.

Be careful if the two papers change color; there is an experimental error (this result is impossible).

Don't hesitate if you have other questions!
