    Natural hazards and natural disasters are linked, but are not the same.

    A natural hazard is the threat of an event that will likely have a negative impact. For example, a thunderstorm is a hazard.

    A natural disaster includes the negative impacts following a natural hazard. A natural disaster significantly harms a community. For example, a tidal wave impacting a costal city.
