    Hi !

    After a quick Internet look-up, here's what I found:

In the European beginning, soccer was called soccer, because it was a ball game that you kicked with your feet.

However, regulations were not as clear-cut as they are today, and it was possible to hold the ball in your hands.

The sport changed over the years and, in the United States, soccer and rugby formed a single sport.

When the authorities responsible for soccer rules declared that it was no longer possible to touch the ball with the hands, the name soccer remained in the USA.

To make the distinction, Canada and the United States called European soccer “soccer”.

I hope this answers your question! Don't hesitate if you have any other questions, it will be a real pleasure for me to answer them for you ;D
