A capacitor is constituted of two electrodes that are isolated from each other, and that can accumulate an electric charge. When its maximum electric charge is achieved, the capacitor essentially behaves as an open circuit and discharges its charge.

Capacitors have a variety of roles in electric circuits and are used in a wide variety of objects, including camera flashes, audio equipment, and sensors.
