6 Turnkey Worksheets for a Reading Circle

Article

A reading circle is a special time when students can share their reading experience with their classmates.

To help you prepare for this activity, Alloprof has put together 6 worksheets to distribute to your students. Each worksheet describes a task the student needs to do before the reading circle and explains what they need to do to carry out their role during the circle so that everything runs smoothly!

Details

These worksheets are designed for reading circles where every group member is reading the same book.

Here are a few tips for running a successful reading circle.

  1. Form circles (groups) of 4 to 5 students.
  2. Assign each member of the group a role, taking into account each student’s strengths and personality.
  3. Give each student the appropriate worksheet.
  4. Set aside time in class for students to read the book (or part of the book) and complete their worksheets.
  5. During the circle, circulate around the classroom and provide guidance where needed. Don’t hesitate to ask for support from a colleague (student teacher, librarian, remedial teacher, etc.).

Note: The activity can be repeated multiple times until students finish their books or over the course of the year with different books. Remember to change things up each time so every student has a chance to play every role!
