Article
Update : October 16, 2024

Learning to recognize and differentiate geometric shapes is an essential part of any mathematics class. With these printable cards, your students can practise identifying polygons via a fun activity!

A Variety of Ways to Use It in Class

This fun game was originally designed as a memory game, but there are many ways to use it with students in different grade levels. In addition to following the instructions provided, here are a few fun ways to use this tool in the classroom:

  • Remove the cards for shapes your students have not studied yet. Alternatively, you could print two copies of the shapes or names so students can play the memory game with identical cards, rather than matching the names to the shapes
  • Have your students sort the shapes into different categories to identify their differences and similarities.
  • Add the game to a math learning station.
  • Write riddles or invite students to come up with their own. Here is an example: I’m a polygon with 3 sides of different sizes. What am I? Answer: a scalene triangle.
