Pedagogical Game: Halloween Bingo

Article

Looking for an educational class activity to mark the lead-up to Halloween? Halloween bingo is a terrific way to review vocabulary associated with the holiday.

When and Why to Play Bingo

Fun and easy to play, bingo is an ideal classroom game for a variety of occasions (e.g., Valentine’s Day, Christmas) and concepts (e.g., math operations, the periodic table). This version helps students learn and review Halloween-related words.

How to Play

  1. Put students in groups of 2 to 5 and give everyone a bingo card.
  2. The students take turns randomly picking a word from the hat. They can read it out or, for a bit of a challenge, spell it out.
  3. Each player checks their bingo card: If the word is on it, they mark it with a token.
  4. Repeat steps one to three. Once someone gets a full line of tokens vertically, horizontally, or diagonally, they yell “Bingo!” The first player to do so wins.
