     First, here’s a quick reminder: Economic liberalism believes that the state should intervene minimally in the economy and trade. Economic liberalism is directly opposed to protectionism.

    Free trade is an economic policy aimed at eliminating all trade barriers between countries that have signed an agreement.

    An example of free trade and economic liberalism would be the abolition of customs tariffs between Canada and the United States under the Reciprocity Treaty of 1854.
