    Good evening KindTyrannosaurus332!

The American Revolution was an uprising in North America. The Thirteen Colonies claimed their independence from their metropolis ; Great Britain.

Several events led to the American Revolution such as the imposition of numerous taxes by the British Crown without consultation with the American population. This revolution was strongly inspired by the ideas of the philosophers of the Enlightenment ; the ideas of equality, freedom and self-determination were advocated. For example, Jean Jacques Rousseau was a philosopher who defended the idea that power really belongs to the people.

    Hope that answers your question.
