    First and foremost, you should always handle a thermometer with care. It is a fragile object, likely to break. Thus, we make sure of certain things by doing the following things:

    • Taking it by its center, and not by its end.
    • Not using it as a stirring rod.
    • Handling it carefully, so as to reduce the risk of an accident.

    To take the temperature with a thermometer, you must:

    • Place the thermometer in contact with the substance whose temperature you want to measure.
    • Wait for the temperature on the thermometer to stabilize.
    • Place your head at the same level as the thermometer’s liquid.
    • Take the temperature measurement. Since each temperature increment is not always indicated, it is often necessary to determine the scale of the thermometer. Watch out for units!
