    Good question!

First of all, the three best-known phases of matter are the solid phase, the liquid phase, and the gas phase.

In addition, distillation is a technique for separating mixtures used to separate the constituents of a homogeneous mixture or a heterogeneous mixture comprising at least one liquid phase. Therefore, just by knowing the definition of distillation, you are able to find part of the answer to your question.
