    Hello!

The colonies of the colonial empires lived in rather difficult conditions. The inhabitants of these are considered to be of lower order compared to their mother country. In addition, it is difficult for the latter to develop their economy since their raw materials are exploited by the empires.

This is why between the years 1947 and 1990, several colonies, still under the influence of the great colonial empires, will claim their independence. They will claim the right to self determination and sovereignty. The first colonies to do so are India and Pakistan.

Self-determination is the action by which a nation decides its own political status. A colony can then become sovereign. It then becomes a country in its own right.

Some colonies will make these requests based on the principles of freedom and equality present in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, making their demands legitimate. These will be based on the article mentioning the right to self-determination: “One of the purposes of the United Nations is to develop friendly relations between nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights of peoples and of their right to be directed. "

Decolonization is a process by which a colony becomes independent and autonomous.

    Hope that answers your question!
