    Good evening TomateSupra7536!

Neoliberalism is an economical current of thought that aims to limit state’s intervention in the economy.

For the neoliberals, the government must promote free competition (less constraints) and opt for a laissez-faire policy (less intervention).

Individual responsibilities are put forward and services, such as health and education, are offered by the private sector.

During the 1980s, Quebec and Canada, in the wake of neoliberalism, made budget cuts in social programs. Services to citizens, such as family allowances, access to health care or employment insurance, were therefore reduced. Some of these services were then transferred to private companies.

To learn more about neoliberalism in Quebec, I invite you to consult our concept sheet on the subject.

I hope that answers your question!
