During the 1980s, the people of Quebec began to build their families much later than before. This can be explained by several facts, including the increase in the number of women who want to pursue higher education before starting a family. In addition, fewer children are born and therefore families are getting smaller. The proportion of elderly people is then greater than that of the number of young people.
