Explanation from Alloprof
This Explanation was submitted by a member of the Alloprof team.
During the 1980s, the people of Quebec began to build their families much later than before. This can be explained by several facts, including the increase in the number of women who want to pursue higher education before starting a family. In addition, fewer children are born and therefore families are getting smaller. The proportion of elderly people is then greater than that of the number of young people.
Finally, the many advances in medicine mean that Quebecers live much longer than before. If you need more details, I suggest you take a look at our fact sheet on the subject.
Hope that answers your question!
