    Hi,

Maurice Duplessis was Prime Minister of Quebec from 1936 to 1939, then from 1944 until his death in 1959.

It should be noted that Duplessis practices social conservatism, a political ideology that puts conservative concerns at the center of his policy, both economically and socially. He therefore attaches great importance to the Church, especially in the education and health sector. The Church therefore retains a very great influence on the population. The omnipresence of the Church in political and social affairs is called clericalism.

In terms of the economy, the Duplessis government favors economic liberalism, a mentality that prefers the limitation of government intervention.

For Duplessis, national affirmation is also very important. In fact, it was Duplessis who, in 1948, adopted the national flag that we still have today: the fleurdelisé. He also wants Quebec to be autonomous and as responsible as possible. To do this, he introduced provincial taxes in 1954.

    Hope that answers your question.

    Have a good day!
