    Hello Zen Zombie!

I will give you the definition of imperialism according to the Alloprof file: imperialism is a policy of expansion and domination of one country over another. The country which practices this policy tries to create an empire, in which it can impose its decisions on different aspects of society such as cultural, economic and military areas.

Following the industrial revolution of the 18th century, large industries felt a need for raw materials in order to manufacture as many products as possible. This is why the great European powers will colonize Africa in order to seek resources there.

However, the exploitation of mineral resources is done with the help of labour. These workers will be recruited from the local populations. The wages and conditions of these will be very difficult to live with.

Moreover, when the Empires took possession of the territories of Africa, the demarcation of the new borders did not take into account the distribution of the different populations that lived there. This has resulted in numerous conflicts between different nation grouped together in a single territory.
