    Hello!

The United Kingdom is a country made up of islands, so it must keep its navy and merchant navy in good condition. As wood is necessary for the construction of its ships, the country mainly imports its wood from northern Europe.

In 1806, Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France, decided to establish a continental blockade in order to prevent trade between the United Kingdom and the rest of Europe.

The United Kingdom then turned to its colony of Lower Canada in order to import the timber from there.

    Hope that answers your question!
