    I have the answer to your question. :)

    World War II started when Germany invaded Poland on September 1st, 1939. Great Britain and France later responded to that with the declaration of war towards Germany on September 3th.

    Great Britain and France officially declared war on Germany. However, this declaration of war was triggered by the German invasion of Poland.
