Hello! What is the difference between a poem's subject/topic and it's theme?

    Hi!

    The subject is what the poem is about. For example, I could write a poem about an event like a break-up.

    The theme(s) could be love, friendship, pain, grief and so on. The theme is, in a way, what you want to talk about though your subject.
