    Oxidation is the process by which an element or molecule loses one or more electrons to another. The substance that loses electrons is the oxidized substance and the one that gains electrons is the reduced substance.


    Oxidation really has nothing to do with oxygen, except that oxygen often steals electrons from other molecules, making it an oxidizing agent.
