A fraction is a portion of a whole. Also, a fraction is made up by a numerator and denominator. A numerator is the portion and the denominator is the whole. For example, 5/8,3/4,6/10, etc.

A fraction often represents a part of a whole or a part of a set. A fraction is always made up of a numerator and a denominator.

The denominator is the number below the fraction bar (line). It represents the number of equal parts into which the whole has been separated.

Fractions represent a whole or part of a set. They are expressed as the division of two numbers: a numerator (the one on top) and a denominator (the one below):

$$ fraction = \frac{numerator}{denominator} $$

Fractions are just divisions; one can divide two numbers and get the exact same result as one would by placing those two numbers in a fraction:

$$ \frac{3}{2} = 3÷2 = 1.5 $$
