    Hello !

    Thank you for your question!

Periodicity of properties of the elements is the concept which describes the tendency of certain physical and chemical properties of the elements to increase and decrease when one goes down the groups and periods of the periodic table.

For example, the atomic mass increases from left to right within all periods. For instance, in period 4, the atomic mass varies between 39.10 atomic units (potassium) completely at left and gradually increases up to 83.80 atomic units (krypton).

The atomic mass increases from top to bottom of the families of the periodic table. For example, in the first family, atomic mass varies from 1.01 atomic units (hydrogen) to 223 atomic units (francium).

    Several properties increase periodically:

    • Electronegativity

    • Atomic mass

    • Atomic radius

    • Ionization energy
