As many students worry about end-of-year exams, Alloprof offers tools to support their success

Montreal, May 24, 2023 - For hundreds of thousands of students in Quebec, ministry exams are already underway, and Alloprof has a variety of services available to help them succeed in school during this crucial period. According to a Léger survey of parents with children in elementary or high school in Quebec, 1 in 7 young people are unsure or not at all confident that they will pass their end-of-year exams. Recall that scores for the 2022 MEQ Secondary IV uniform examinations in French and math were significantly lower compared to 2019.

Welcome assistance for hundreds of thousands of students

Alloprof provides assistance to 550,000 students in Quebec every year as part of its mission to help the most vulnerable young people by equipping them with the tools to succeed in school, especially at the end of the year when motivation is often at its lowest. Students can access a plethora of resources to help them go into their exams with confidence: classroom workshops, the Help Zone, videos, online exercises, study tips, and even an Ask a Teacher service. Last May and June, Alloprof had more than 8 million interactions with students seeking assistance with their end-of-year assessments.

Math remains a challenging subject for many

During this same period, almost half of the questions asked by students in the Help Zone were related to math. “Along with French, math is still the bane of many students’ existence!” says Annie Harvey, spokesperson for Alloprof. “The great thing about Alloprof services like the Help Zone and the live chat is that students can send us a picture of their math problem. Our teachers can then take the time to walk the child through the problem-solving process and provide additional information via our online content.”

Practical tips for studying and managing stress

Beyond subject-specific resources, Alloprof also offers a host of tips and printable tools for more effective study sessions. For instance, there are tips on how to make a good cheat sheet, manage stress, boost your memory with the help of mind maps, and improve concentration.

“Sometimes students have trouble making progress not because of the material, but because they aren’t studying as effectively as they could,” explains Harvey. “Our tips help parents and students overcome their challenges and find the strategies that work for them. We see it all the time in the questions we receive: many students experience stress and performance anxiety related to school. It’s always good to have a few strategies ready to help you stay calm in these situations,” she adds, inviting parents to consult the complete parent’s guide to ministry exams.

A helping hand for teachers

Finally, among the new resources available to help students complete the end-of-year sprint, Alloprof has put together a collection of all of its best exam prep tools for elementary school and high school students. The organization is also encouraging teachers to sign up for a free virtual workshop or have their classes compete in an online rally as a way of introducing these resources in a lighthearted way.

Here are all the Alloprof resources that are available:
