As you approach the last stretch of high school, there is much to celebrate. With the end in sight, you can look forward to many exciting moments, such as prom, graduation, class trips, and the end of final exams. It’s also a time to think about next steps. What should you study? Which program should you enrol in? What is the best school for you? CEGEP is one great option to explore. This article from Alloprof breaks down how CEGEP registration works.

Alloprof has developed a special tool to help you organize the information and documents you need for the CEGEP application process. Check it out!
You’ve already had the opportunity to choose specific classes in high school, such as certain math and science classes in Secondary IV and V. Knowing your areas of interest and your strengths will help you decide which CEGEP program of study to apply to. Don’t forget to use Alloprof’s tool to guide you through the process.
Another important factor to consider is what you plan to do after CEGEP. Do you want to enter the job market right away, or do you want to pursue university studies? Most CEGEPs offer two types of programs to meet both needs: technical training and pre-university education.
Your Secondary IV marks are important. They form part of the overall prerequisite average that CEGEPs will look at. They also contribute to your diploma requirements and demonstrate your competency in specific subjects, such as Mathematics, Science, English, History, and French.
If joining the workforce quickly is your goal, then consider a technical training program. Most programs take three years to complete and give you the qualifications you need to enter the job market right away. And if your plans change, no worries: you can also pursue a university degree upon completion of most technical programs!
If you want to pursue an undergraduate degree at a university, then pre-university education is the right choice for you. A pre-university program usually takes two years to complete.
Most CEGEPs require you to apply online. The following websites allow you to apply to multiple CEGEPs in a specific region (available in both English and French):
Service régional de l’admission des cégeps du Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean (SRASL)
Service régional d’admission du Montréal métropolitain (SRAM)
Other CEGEPs require you to apply directly through their own website:
Once you’ve made your decision and are ready to start the application process, make sure to have the required information and documents handy. The other side of this tool will help you get organized.
The deadline for the Fall term is March 1, and the deadline for the Winter term is November 1.
Some colleges have practice or mock applications to help you familiarize yourself with the application process. Don’t be scared to try them out before you apply!
