Alloprof’s top tools for teaching elementary school math

Article
Update : June 12, 2023

Elementary school math teachers are often challenged to come up with new ideas to switch up their teaching approach, break out of their routine, and keep students motivated. The good news is that Alloprof has an array of tools and resources to complement and vary your teaching strategies. Here are a few!

Educational games

Educational games have been proven to enhance motivation. When you think of adding variety to an educational approach, the first thing that probably comes to mind is making learning fun. Fortunately, Alloprof has four fun math games geared toward elementary school students. To practise arithmetic operations, students can play Météormath 2 or Fin Lapin 3. In Météormath 2, students can practise all four operations for the tables from 1 to 12 at beginner, intermediate, and expert difficulties. There are so many creative ways to use this game in the classroom! Fin Lapin 3, one of our most popular games, features four ways to play. Players can choose the operations they want to work on, plus review integers and positive integers and even practise finding missing numbers. These games can be played individually, as a team, or altogether as a class, if you’re looking for a more competitive activity!

Concept videos

Alloprof has spared no effort to create loads of videos for students that provide simple and practical explanations of tricky concepts. Teachers can use them too! For example, this interactive video (in French) on the order of operations has review questions for Grade 5 and 6 math concepts. You can have your students vote on the right answers with a show of hands. And to complete the lesson, feel free to use this review quiz.

Exercices

Another way to use an interactive whiteboard is to project exercises (available in French only) that illustrate concepts in a practical way. Our factor tree tool is a good example of an interactive activity you can do with your students. It lets you build a factor tree from any number you choose so students can easily visualize the process.

Did you know

Our interactive exercise on decimal numbers allows your students to practice addition and subtraction with decimal numbers. Thanks to operations that adapt to the student's school level, it has great educational potential in the classroom as well as for homework and lessons.

Concept sheets

Concept sheets are our flagship tool. The Alloprof website has no less than 588 concept sheets for math, including more than 80 for elementary school! They have many uses: in addition to being a huge help in curriculum planning and course preparation, they allow you to review the essentials of a concept and can be used to review material before exams.

Did you know

Concept sheets feature examples, exercises, and videos that summarize more than 5,000 concepts from the Quebec Education Program. Although the majority of them cover high school concepts, the Alloprof team is working hard to develop more at the elementary level. We’re willing to bet you’ll find them to be a valuable source of inspiration!
