Why do they call newcomers to Canada "immigrants", when we ourselves have immigrated to Canada

    Hello,

    The word “immigrant” designates a person who arrives in a new country. When Europeans came to America, the land was not yet divided into countries. The Europeans who settled here were therefore called settlers and not immigrants.
