Student Question

Secondary IV • 6mo.

I have a question about grade 10 science :)). I didn’t really understand the difference between ocean current, surface current, subsurface currents, and ocean circulation. Can you please clarify these four terms for me?

    Hi 😁

We can review the definitions together!

First, ocean circulation is the movement of all ocean water on a planetary scale.

Second, an ocean current is the continuous predictable movement of an oceanic water mass.

The main types of ocean currents are surface currents and deep currents. Together, some surface currents and deep currents form the thermohaline circulation: a massive loop that runs continuously through all of the Earth's oceans.
