You start with the parentheses, then to remove the confusion when you have a number just next the parentheses its a multiplication su you can put the multiplication (x) once you completed it.

with the priority of operations (multiplication goes before addition)

    14 - (6+2) 14 - (6+2)

    14 - 8 x 14 - 8

    14 - 112 - 8 = -106

    (5x2)-(3+4)(5x2)-(3+4)

    10 - 7 x 10 - 7

    10 - 70 - 7 = -67

    Order of Operations (PEMDAS)

    • Do things in Parentheses First
    • Exponents
    • Multiply or Divide (left to right)
    • Add or Subtract (left to right)

    Hi !

When there is a multiplication between a parenthesis and a number, you have to use the concept of distributivity.

You have to multiply each number of the paranthesis with the number outside. For example, \(-(6+2)14\) is the same as \(-1\times(6+2)\times14\). You can then multiply either one first.

    $$ -1\times(6+2)\times14=-1\times(6\times14+2\times14) $$

I will let you try to complete the exercice and if you have other questions, feel free to ask them !
