MONTREAL, July 15, 2024 – As some 20 000 high school students in Quebec start summer classes and prepare for exam retakes, the professionals at Alloprof will be back in action to help them get ready. This year, the organization’s summer services are kicking off early. From July 10 to July 31, 2024, students can reach out for support by phone, text, chat, or via Alloprof’s Help Zone.
Furthermore, Alloprof toured schools in Quebec City, Montreal, Laval, and Montérégie to present the thousands of free, practical tools available to help students understand and practise challenging subject material, so they can pass their exams and move on to the next stage of their education.
Here are a few statistics on the impact and use of Alloprof’s learning tools during the 2023 summer school period:
- Alloprof helped students 525 000 times, all services combined
- The Alloprof team answered in excess of 55 000 questions submitted via the Help Zone (an increase of more than 50% over the previous year)
- Web users viewed Alloprof’s concept sheets 250 000 times
- Math and French generated the most questions, as in previous years
According to Alloprof’s Student Services Manager Pascal Bonaldo, “Finding out that you have to take summer courses or retake your exams can be some of the worst news you can get as a student. It intensifies feelings of failure and can chip away at self-confidence. When our team works with these kids during our classroom tours and through our Ask a Teacher service, we really take the time to emphasize their perseverance and effort. Above all, we always provide them with the best resources to fully understand the material.”
Tailor-Made Tools for Ministry Exams
Alloprof has a host of exercises, concept sheets, videos, and checklists that are designed to help students master the concepts covered in Quebec’s ministry exams. Whatever the subject, Alloprof’s team of teachers is on hand to answer students’ questions by chat, text, or phone, Monday to Thursday, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Alloprof website also features an extensive collection of exercises that allow students to consolidate material, practice exams for certain subjects, and 30-minute Crash Course videos to check understanding. To help students prepare for the Secondary V French uniform examination, we have posted a recording of a review session led by our teachers on YouTube and TikTok.
Minimizing Learning Loss
Alloprof understands how important it is to rest and make time for fun during the summer. However, most students forget at least some of what they learned during the school year and fall behind over the summer. This phenomenon is known as summer learning loss. To mitigate this loss, Alloprof has some ideas for activities parents can try to keep their child engaged in learning while having fun, so they can start the school year with confidence in September.
