With the pandemic, parents throughout the province have noticed that their kids are raiding the fridge more often and spending more time on their tablets, cellphones, and computers. While we can’t do anything about the current situation, we can help you make the most of your child’s screen time. Check out our suggestions.

Work together

Studying or working on your own isn’t always easy. Even with social distancing, people are finding ways to get together to do schoolwork in small groups. You could suggest that your child use their screen time to connect with a few of their classmates. Once assembled virtually, they’ll be able to do the following:

  • Share ideas
  • Help each other
  • Encourage each other
  • Work on their homework and assignments 
  • Share study tips
  • etc.

To help your child join in the fun, encourage them to do the following:

  • Read a book of their choice
  • Summarize the story
  • Form an opinion
  • Make a video
  • Share the final cut with their friends and family

Socialize

Everyone is feeling the effects of social distancing. But you can help your child stay motivated and have fun by suggesting they connect with friends virtually. In addition to just shooting the breeze with their friends, suggest they try doing the following:

  • Watch a movie with friends by sharing their screen (on Zoom or another
    platform)
