Children's author, illustrator and workshop facilitator Sandra Dumais lives and works in Montreal, QC (but still sometimes pines for her hometown of Toronto). She left the world of Graphic Design in 2013 and has been working as an illustrator ever since. She is mostly self-taught, though she is always taking classes and learning new things. She also teaches classes in schools, libraries and online, about drawing and telling our own stories through comics. (By the way - making comics is a great way to get through a tough time, you should try it!) Her favourite picture books are about brave and quirky kids and animals, and their unusual families. Her favourite mediums are pencils, gouache, digital collage, and acrylic paint.
Her picture book work won the prestigious Prix des Libraires (Bookseller's award) in Quebec in both 2020 and 2021, and her daily comic Staying In, documenting the first 100 days of the Global Pandemic has earned her an interview with CBC Arts. In her free time, you can find her wandering the parks and alleys of Montreal with her family and their rescue dog, reading all kinds of books (sometimes at the same time!) and painting at the Pointe St-Charles Art School.
