Louis Pasteur was a French chemist and biologist. He is best known for discovering a vaccine against rabies and for developing the principle of pasteurization (a process for preserving food).

Biography in a few points

  • 1822: Louis Pasteur is born in France on December 27.

  • 1843: He is admitted to the École normale, where he studies chemistry and physics.

  • 1854: Appointed Professor of Chemistry and Dean of the Lille Faculty of Science.

  • 1874: His research on fermentation earns him recognition from the scientific community.

  • 1881: Pasteur's team develops a vaccine against sheep anthrax.

  • 1885: He discovers a vaccine against rabies, making him known worldwide.

  • 1888: The Pasteur Institute in Paris is inaugurated on November 14.

  • 1895: He died on September 28 in an annex of his institute.
