Constructing the Nets of Solids - Cycle 1

| Mathematics

What is the net of a solid?

Important!

Knowing how to identify the faces of a prism or a pyramid will help you to recognize how to construct the net of a solid. To do so, you need to identify the type of plane figure that corresponds to each face.

To find out what a plane figure is, see the Plane Figures concept sheet.

Example:

In the square-based prism, there are 4 rectangles and 2 squares.

The net of a solid shows a flat perspective of all its faces and how they are connected to each other. It is like unwrapping a solid and placing it flat on the ground.

Be careful!

A solid can have several possible nets.

Examples:

Here are some possible nets of a cube.
