Alloprof’s best study tools to help high school students prepare for exams

Article

Exams are just around the corner. As exciting as that may sound, this time of year can also be a source of stress for students and teachers. In high school, students are starting to get used to exams, but that doesn’t mean they don’t feel stressed or even anxious about them. Since you can’t help your students 24/7, Alloprof has put together a list of essential tools you can show your students to help them prepare for their exams, both in class and at home.

Tips and tools

Among all of our tools for high school students, our Crash Lessons (in French only) are most popular. These short interactive videos are up to 30 minutes long and give students a chance to review various concepts, see how well they understand them, challenge themselves with exercises, and discover related concepts. They contain validation questions and exercises students can answer or do during the video or after they watch it.

French

To help French teachers, we’ve collected key resources related to the three skills assessed on the exam. For reading, we recommend that your students read our Trucs pour répondre à des questions en lecture and watch the featured videos.

For writing, our Trucs pour la correction d’un texte include our best tips for self-revision during exams.

For oral communication, our best resource is definitely our Trucs et outils en communication orale , which feature the following elements:

Finally, feel free to tell your students about our French Crash Lessons, which tackle a variety of topics ranging from analyzing narration type to writing a persuasive text.

Math

Math exams can be stressful for your students, especially at the end of the year. Here are a few resources to help them.

First, you can encourage them to look at our math concept sheet about memory aids to help them develop a clear list of what they need to review. Having an overview of the task at hand often helps make it feel less daunting.

In addition to our concept sheets, our Trucs pour la résolution de problèmes (French only) are also very useful. This article features a number of tips to help make completing a math problem as easy as can be.

Finally, students can always review our concept sheets which offer easy-to-understand explanations of math concepts, as well as our videos that explain the most difficult concepts with examples from typical problem solving situations.

Science and Technology

Whether your students are preparing for theoretical exams or lab tests, the Alloprof platform contains relevant resources that will help them succeed. First of all, concept sheets such as Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration and Periodic Table of Elements can help your students better understand the material at hand or help them refresh their memory before a test.

As with other subjects, our Science exam and review page also contains review guides and checklists for different grade levels. These tools list all the main concepts that are likely to be on the exam, along with links to Alloprof resources for each one.

Finally, secondary IV and V students who are taking Chemistry should check out our game Solitary Reaction. It gives students a fun way to practice balancing chemical equations. The game features three levels of difficulty and enough equations for hours of practice!

Social Sciences

There are now over 60 history concepts sheets in English for Sec. III and IV students! For those students who may be taking history in French, however, Alloprof has a multitude of resources. Whether you are working on history, geography, or the contemporary world, it’s essential to be familiar with basic history tools. Among our social science concept sheets, you’ll find information about intellectual operations and document analysis, including la phrase histoire and 3QO and 3QPOC. Our French Social Science section is also filled with Crash Lessons and exercises. English ones coming soon!

English as a Second Language

Figuring out what to study ahead of an ESL exam can be tough for some students. If you want to guide your students towards the right resources, you can start by showing them our concept sheets on vocabulary, grammar, and conjugation. They’re teeming with examples designed to provide a better understanding of English nuances and particularities.

We also have two games to help students sharpen their English skills. Spellers allows you to revise English vocabulary, and Irregular Verbs focuses on how to conjugate irregular verbs.

If conjugation is a major challenge for your students, you can recommend online exercises on different verb tenses:

Be careful!

Since our site has thousands of concept sheets, exercises, and videos, we’ve selected the ones we thought were the most relevant. Of course, this list is not exhaustive, so please encourage your students to browse our site if they have any further questions.

In general

Regardless of the subject at hand, we also invite you to consult the Exam prep and study tips section, where you’ll find our review guides (which list all the concepts in the curriculum) along with tips and tricks to better prepare for exams, including the following:

Ask a teacher

Finally, if they’re ever stuck, students and parents can visit our Help Zone and ask questions for free, 7 days a week. They can also contact our teachers by phone, text message, or chat from Monday to Thursday, between 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
