Rules

Apostrophes are used to:

  • indicate a contraction

  • show possession

The word following an apostrophe is not capitalized.

Examples

Indicate contractions

Selina the inventor asking her cat why it keeps eating the plants.

Show possession

Selina the inventor listening to her cat’s purr.
