Your Alloprof Homework Survival Guide.

Tip #1: Turn Chaos into Cleanliness

Have you ever heard the expression: A place for everything and everything in its place? How true, especially when it comes to having the right school materials to complete homework assignments and study for tests. If your books and tools are scattered in different places, how will you get started? Here are some ways to clean up your act:

  • Organize your locker at school. Recycle crumpled papers, throw out left-over food, and make sure that your books and binders are accessible.

  • Use binders and folders with separators to organize school subjects

  • Declutter your workspace at home. Make sure to have a tidy table- or desk top upon which to work, and have the necessary writing tools on hand.

  • Categorize your books onto shelves or into bins so they can be more easily found

Tip #2: Set the mood

Once you’re finally organized, it’s time to get into the homework groove. Here are some pointers:

  • Change into some comfy clothes.

  • Make sure you have a comfortable place to sit.

  • Play some music (as long as it doesn't distract you).

  • Arrange proper lighting to avoid eye strain.

  • Feeling stressed? Think about incorporating some breathing exercises or a quick meditation. These will help improve your focus.

Tip #3: Fuel Up!

There’s nothing worse than trying to work on an empty stomach. It’s important to fuel up before any study or homework session to boost your energy and brainpower. Here are some ideas for quick and easy snacks:

  • Cheese and crackers

  • Veggies and dip

  • Peanut butter on toast

  • A fruit smoothie

  • A bowl of your favourite cereal

  • Nuts or trail mix

  • Etc.

Check out Canada’s food guide. It has some great recipe ideas for healthy snacks. Or, try making these simple, no bake and healthy chocolate energy bites:

  • Into a food processor, combine:

  • 1 cup pitted dates

  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • ¼ cup old fashioned rolled oats

  • ¼ unsalted cashews (or any nut)

  • 2 tablespoons almond flour

  • ⅛ teaspoon sea salt (optional)

Process mixture until you get dry coarse crumbs. Then add:

  • 1 tablespoon of maple syrup.

Pulse until the coarse crumbs combine. Place mixture into a bowl and compress it into a smoother dough. Using your hands, roll into bite size balls. Enjoy!

Tip #4: Have a Plan

Now that you’re fueled up, organized, and in the right frame of mind, make sure that you have a plan. What will you tackle first? What will you set aside for later? Do you have a homework routine that works? Do you sometimes procrastinate? Here are some ideas to help you organize yourself so that you can get things done and on time:

  • Use our planning tool to help you prioritize tasks.

  • Use time management tools, like Alloprof’s Motivational Timer. Our timer allows you to customize the time you spend on each subject and earn fun rewards.

  • Use your agenda, calendar, or schedule to jot down important dates and allocate time to the subjects you need to work on.

  • Take breaks and do something you enjoy, such as:

    • Doodling, journaling, or short story writing

    • Take a bubble bath

    • Listen to music

    • Practise your hobby

    • Walk the dog

    • Etc.

Tip

It's crucial to mix things up when tackling homework and studying. Using the same method every time for tests and exam preparation gets boring and less effective. Why not give Alloprof tools a try?
