Since the end of World War II, there has been no major conflict involving all the powerful nations of the world. That does not mean that there have not been any conflicts. However, they have been limited to one region of the world and often involved a few neighbouring countries.
These regional conflicts may have been related to national independence, to a desire to expand or to misunderstandings between different cultures that live in the same territory.
Some of these conflicts were also related to the Cold War period. In this case, Eastern Bloc allies were pitted against nations from the Western Bloc—allies of communism against capitalist nations.
The list of regional conflicts that have occurred since the end of World War II is very long. This is why only major conflicts are presented here. These conflicts had, or still have, an important impact on international politics. Here are the links to access the concept sheets on these conflicts:
