Decomposable Geometric Figures

This category of geometric figures involves figures without any particular properties. However, certain generalities can still be established.

Decomposable Figures

Definition

Set of geometric figures where at least one angle and side measurement differs from the others and which may contain a curved line.

In other words, it is a geometric figure which is formed by a set of simpler geometric figures.

Example

In the following decomposable figure, a rectangle, a triangle, and a semi-circle are found.

As geometric figures become more complex, the term "decomposable polygon" better represents the sorts of figures in question.

Decomposable Polygons

Definition

A geometric figure where at least one angle and side measurement differ from the others and which is formed using only straight lines.

In other words, it is a geometric figure formed by a set of simpler polygons.

Example

In the following decomposable polygon, a rectangle, a triangle, and a trapezoid are found.

In fact, this is a simple heptagon, not a regular heptagon. The advantage of decomposing these polygons into triangles and quadrilaterals is that the properties of the latter can be used to obtain different measurements, such as perimeter and area.
