How do you write the remainder of a division as a decimal number?

To perform a division with a remainder, it is important to use long division. To review long division, see the Dividing Numbers concept sheet.

Example

1 962 ÷ 8 = ?

First, I perform the division until the remaining number can no longer be divided.
I add a decimal point and a 0 to the dividend. Also, I place a decimal point to the right of the answer.
I bring down the 0 and I continue the division.
Then, I add another 0 to the dividend. Next, I bring it down and continue the division.

1 962 ÷ 8 = 245,25
